For longer or shorter handles: Make fewer or more than 40 chs.
For thicker handles: You can work stitches into the chains, but you’ll want to adjust rnd 15 so you don’t have to work into the sl sts.

I”m doing the pink bag with the suggested yarn and hook, but it always comes out saddle shaped at the end of round three, instead of flat. Am I doing something wrong? I have 48 dc with 24 chain spaces at the end of round three, that seems like way too many?

I think that it evens out after rnd 3 – a lot of stitches are added at the beginning to establish the pattern, then that’s as big as it gets! Try working past rnd 3 and see how it looks.

No you would just work in a spiral and not connect the rnds. I’ll make a note.

I love these bags so much, especially the green one – how it stretches to hold so much. Plus I used some very special yarn – Cotton Fleece, 80% cotton, 20% wool. Its nice and soft and drapey. I didn’t find anything that wasn’t already mentioned

On the round before the handles, would it be easier to do a single crochet then the chains for the handles if you are going to make a thicker handle? The single crochets would be easier to work into than the slip stitches when working on the handles.

You’re right – hmm… not sure if I want to rewrite for that. I think I’ll just take it out and let those who want to fiddle with the handles go ahead and fiddle ha:)

I added a note about thicker handles. So hopefully that will help. I just don’t like when modifications “interrupt” the pattern.
This is where I struggle – I made the bags just to be little sweet dainty bags to carry small nature treasures and I really like the thin handles. But then I could end up writing so many modifications (make the bag wider, longer, etc; make the handles wider, longer, etc) that the original intention of the bag gets lost. Maybe I’m a little bratty haha! ❤

Rounds 5-8 need the ch 2(3,4,5) after the repeat before joining. Looks like you’ve already gotten feedback on the other things I initially noticed. 🙂

On R7 is it a typo or there a chain 3 in between vstitches?

Thanks for checking in! It’s not a typo – the green bag as chains between the v-sts. First there’s one chain, then two, then 3, then 4, then back down 3,2,1 (if that makes sense). But it’s not the chain that’s apart of the v-st. So for rnd 7 it’s – dc,ch1,dc (for the v-st) then 3 chains then another v-st (dc,ch1,dc). Let me know if I answered your question!

Unable to post photos here of the bags, should I message you, Abbey? I stayed up til 3 and finished both bags. The corrections I noticed were changed in the pattern already this morning, other than indicating where to sl st at the end of the round, and stitch count for the increase chain rounds. Loved both patterns; they are so cute!!!

I just finished the green bag and see that you have made the changes to the pattern that I was going to mention. My yarn must be a lot thicker since my bag is bigger than the dimensions posted above. But I love how it turned out! I did change the handles on this one. I chained 40, instead of the 20 and I went around again and did a single crochet to make the handles thicker. Thanks again for the pattern! I will post my photos on the Facebook group. 🙂

I just used the directions for the pink bag handles and then added a row of single crochet. I think since these patterns go hand in hand, the crafter could go back to the pink bag if needed. Maybe a side note at the pink bag… (if you want thicker handles add a row of single crochet)?

Hi again, on the green bag round 6 it says to skip stitch into the chain 2 space, but there are no chain 2 spaces in row 5.

Early 1 am greetings! I started on the green bag and am on Rnd 4 and wondered if you are to chain between each v-stitch (v-stitch, ch 1, v-stitch, ch 1, etc)? I didn’t want to continue until I made sure. I couldn’t tell from the picture. If so, then the parenthesis will need to be moved slightly to include the ch 1 into the repeat.

Ahha! I love the 1 am greetings. I wrote this at 1 am the night before. I see I forgot the brackets for the green bag. The chains between the v-sts increase (ch1, 2, 3, etc) then decrease (…3, 2, 1) I think I missed connecting each rnd as well. I woke up to a lot of comments on this one… it will take me a minute to sort though them all.

Finished the pink bag in rainbow yarn. Read through the comments and agree with all of the comments. Only things I might change are as follows (geared toward a beginner crocheter who may not know where to put the sl st). For Rnd 1: sl st to the top of the ch-4, for Rnd 2: Sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3. Rnd 3: I like the idea of stating that you are working into the v’s of the stitch. You could just give an abbreviation for a v-stitch (dc, ch 1, dc) and beg. v-stitch: (ch 4, dc) in the instructions and then just state to sl st to the top of the ch 3. I would add the sl st to the other rounds too, but don’t know if you feel it’s necessary or not. Rnd 12: sl st into the ch 3. Rnd 13-14, do you ch 1 at the beg. of the rnd before starting the sc? If so, perhaps add that. sl st to the top of the sc. I’ll post a pic tomorrow when there’s daylight. 🙂 Thanks again for letting me test this- such a cute and quick pattern and I could think of a lot of ways to use it!

But I totally forgot to have each rnd connect then got mixed up with the chs between the v-sts. Let me know if it makes more sense now! Can’t wait to see a pic of your bag!

Not much needed editing on the red except where we all noticed the wrong chain number and your row 12 correction. The rock community here would love these. The pattern is very forgiving so adding a extra row of v stitch doesn’t seem to hurt the integrity I can’t wait to try the other one in am. I put my pic in a

Sorry if this posted twice! I was wondering what size hook 5.5 mm is as my I hook is 5.25 mm and my J hook is 6.00 mm.

Hey! Thanks so much for testing! I think you could use either hook – I’d try the 5.25 first. The 5.5 mm is an I-9. (I should always add that to the pattern… but I’m kinda a rebel and I really like the millimeter instead of the number/letter:)

You guys – I think I made a mistake on the last dc rnd for the bags. I rewrote it – the bags are supposed to tuck in a little at the top. So the last dc rnd doesn’t have a chain between them. So the last rnd is 48 instead of 68.

I just finished the Pink version. For round 3 I ended up with 48 dc and 24 ch-1-sps. I just adjusted the last row (handles) to accommodate the 4 extra stitches. I did skip the slip stitches altogether and did sc around, ch 40 for handles, then did an additional round of sc all around. For the addition row I did the sc in the back bump of the ch stitches of the handles. These are cool little treasure bags. I know my youngest daughter is going to love using one on our upcoming camping trip! Thank you for sharing this free pattern!

I just finished the pink bag. It might be helpful to add the on rounds 5-12, the stitches are made in the V of the stitch. I wanted the handles wider so I put the chains on single crochet stitches and added a row of slip stitches.
