Weight: 2 Light DK

Notes

Rows worked in the round. Do not connect rnds unless instructed. Do not cut yarn unless instructed; and when instructed to cut yarn, leave 6” for weaving in later. Apply row marker to keep track of rnds if needed.

When instructed to change colors in a new rnd, switch to new color on the last yarn over of the last stitch from the previous rnd. Carry dropped yarn behind work.

First rnd starts at the bottom of the bag and we work our way up and finish with the straps all in one piece. The pocket is a separate circle sewn on afterward. There are sections in italics to help you visualize where we are in the project.

Bottom circles (make 2)

Rnd 1: (CA for circle 1, CB for circle 2) Ch 2 (counts as 1st sc),

work 9 sc in 1st ch made and over tail of yarn. (10 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in 1st sc from rnd 1, 2 sc each sc around. (20 sc)

Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around. (20 sc)

Rnd 4: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] 10 xs. (30 sc)

Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around. (30 sc)

Rnd 6: [Sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] 10 xs. (40 sc)

Rnd 7: Sc in each sc around. (40 sc)

Rnd 8: [Sc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] 10 xs. (50 sc)

Rnd 9: Sc in each sc around. (50 sc)

Rnd 10: (CB for circle 1, CA for circle 2) [Sc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] 10 xs, cut CA for circle 1, CB for circle 2. (60 sc)

Note: 1st circle – cut CB leaving 24” for sewing later; 2nd circle – complete rnds 1 – 11 then continue to rnd 12.

Rnd 12: (CA) Ch 5, [tr in next sc, ch 1] around rnd, sl st in 1st ch-5-sp. (60 [tr, ch-1])

Rnds 13 – 14: Ch 5, [tr in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around rnd, sl st in 1^st ch-5-sp, cut CA. (60 [tr, ch-1])

Rnds 15 – 16: With CB, rep rnds 13 – 14.

Rnd 17: Ch 5, [tr in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around rnd, do not connect rnd. (60 [tr, ch-1])

Rnd 18: Tr in ch-5 from rnd 17, ch 1, [tr in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around rnd. (60 [tr, ch-1])

Rnds 19 – 24: [Tr in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around rnd. (60 [tr, ch-1])

 Sc band between mesh and straps

Rnd 25: (CB) Sc in each ch-1 sp around. (60 sc)

Rnds 26 – 29: (CA) Sc in each sc around. (60 sc)

Rnds 30 – 31: (CB) Sc in each sc around, cut CB. (60 sc)

Rnd 32: (CA) Sc in each sc around. (60 sc)

 Straps

Rnd 33: Ch 50 (or desired length of strap), sk 10 sc, sc in next 20 sc, ch 50 (or desired length of strap), sk 10 sc, sc in next 17 sc.

Rnd 34: Sl st, sk 2 sc, dc in each ch loop, sk 2 sc, sl st, sc across to last 3 sc before strap, sl st, sk 2 sc, dc in each ch loop, sk 2 sc, sl st, sc across to last 3 sc before strap.

Rnd 35: Sl st, sk 2 sc, dc in each dc along strap, sk 2 sc, sl st, sc across to last 3 sc before strap, sl st, sk 2 sc, dc in each ch loop, sk 2 sc, sl st, sc across to last sc.

Rnd 36: Sl st in each st around.

Finish off, weave in all ends.

Pocket

Turn bag inside-out.

With the wrong side facing you, sew circle 2 onto bottom of circle 1, leaving an opening approximately 4” wide at the top.

Attach CB on the pocket where the pocket and base circle meet.

Along the pocket opening, sc to the center of the opening, ch 10 (or # needed to fit around button), sc to the other side of the opening.

Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc to ch-10 sp, 10 sc in ch-10 sp, sc in each rem sc.

Finish off and weave in ends.

Tuck entire bag inside the pocket.

Attach button to circle 1 where loop will reach the button.

Close bag with ch-10 loop and button.
