I received this amazing mason jar for Christmas.
My friend gave this to me with one of those travel lids you can stick on top.
Coolest thing ever.
I really wanted to drink hot coffee out of it so I decided to make its own custom cozy.
I will give you the pattern for this size mason jar, but you can also peek into my designer mind and see how this was created.
Abbreviations and written pattern are located at the end of this post.

First I chained a length of yarn and wrapped the chains around the jar.
I counted the chains then wrote that number down in my notebook. The circumference in chains = 29.
I worked in the round increasing in every other stitch until the outside circle numbered 29 single crochets. I don’t recommend increasing that quickly on a larger project, but it works for small ones.
When I stopped increasing and the circle turned down, I slipped it onto the jar to see if it was the right size and noticed it was a little baggy. We can’t have baggy around hot coffee! So I tore out my stitches back to the small circle above until the increase = 25 sc.
There are two reasons why this bagginess occurs: 1. my chains are tighter than my stitches and 2. the small flat circle with increases expands when you begin to work your stitches normally.
But there’s no stress here because it’s a small project!
I finally got it right and this Mason Jar Cozy joined her friends Mug Tie Cozy and Coffee Shop Cozy (all three are now free patterns with picture tutorials)! Aren’t they cute?
Be well, dear readers. Crochet often. Create always!
