Gauge: 23 rows and 18 sts = 4 inches in sc

Dimensions: Baby; Toddler 17” circ, 6” height; Child; Adult

Notes

For the hat, color changes begin with the lightest, move up to the darkest, then back down to the lightest. Switch color on last yo of sl st connecting the prev rnd. This method creates a seam on the side of the hat but makes the color transitions straight.

Part 1: Increase rnds

All sizes:

Rnd 1: Begin with lightest color, ch 4 (counts as 1 dc), 9 dc in fourth ch from hook, sl st in first dc to connect rnd. (10 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same st as ch, 2 dc in each st around, sl st in first dc to connect rnd. (20 dc)

Rnd 3: With next darkest color, ch 1 (counts as 1 sc here and throughout pattern), [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] rep around to last st, 2 sc in last st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (30 sc)

Rnd 4: With next darkest color, ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] rep 10 times, sc in each rem st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (40 sc)

Rnd 5: With next darkest color, ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] rep 10 times, sc in each rem st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (50 sc)

Rnd 6: With next darkest color, ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts] rep 10 times, sc in each rem st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (60 sc)

Rnd 7: With next lightest color, ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts] rep 10 times, sc in each rem st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (70 sc)

Baby size – move to part 2.

Toddler size – move to part 2.

Rnd 9: With next lightest color, ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts] rep 10 times, sc in each rem st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (90 sc)

Child size – move to part 2.

Rnd 10: With next lightest color, ch 1, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts] rep 10 times, sc in each rem st, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (100 sc)

Adult size – move to part 2.

Part 2: Non-Increase Rnds

Continue to work rnds following established color changes (see note).

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to first ch to connect rnd. (Stitch count = last increase rnd.)

Baby – rep rnd 1 until total hat height reaches 5”, then move to part 3.

Toddler – rep rnd 1 until hat reaches 6” in height, then move to part 3.

Child – rep rnd 1 until hat reaches 7” in height, then move to part 3.

Adult – rep rnd 1 until hat reaches 8” in height, then move to part 3.

Part 3 – last rnds.

Rnds 1, 2: Working in the back loop of the st, sl st in each st around. Finish off.

Part 4: Anemone flower

Rnd 1: With darkest color, ch 4 (counts as 1 dc), 9 dc in fourth ch from hook, sl st in first dc to connect rnd. (10 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), sc in same st as ch, 2 sc in each st around, sl st in first sc to connect rnd. (20 sc)
